Breakout Session: Do We Still Need the Declaration?
Date & Time
Monday, May 18, 2026, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Bill Galston Yuval Levin Larry Reed
Description

This moderated panel discussion will ask: has the Declaration of Independence outlived its usefulness? Is it still an “expression of the American mind,” to quote Thomas Jefferson, or a cherished relic of a bygone era? This panel brings together leading analysts of American political life to explore the significance of the Declaration for us today. Topics to be considered include: why the Declaration properly belongs to all Americans, current threats to the Declaration’s central place in our political life, and how the document might continue to serve as an enduring source of national unity for generations to come.
