American presidents often look to the Declaration of Independence to define the nation’s ideals and identity. In this small-group discussion, we will explore the lasting impact of the Declaration by examining its principles and how they have been interpreted over time. We will analyze speeches by Calvin Coolidge and Barack Obama to see how different presidents have used the Declaration’s core principles to share their vision for America and to reflect on the country’s progress.
